Website | EmailRanked on the World Heritage list, Naracoorte Caves National Park is one of the most important in Australia. In the late 1960s ancient fossils and previously unknown and long-extinct species were uncovered by chance: giant kangaroos, a wombat the size of a hippopotamus, and a marsupial "lion." You can tour five distinct caves, guided by a National Parks Wildlife Officer. Do not miss the Bat Cave which provides a summer nursery for over 100,000 Bent-Wing bats--many of which exit for dusk-time feeding.
