The Moonta area, on South Australia's Yorke Peninsula, is alive with history, much of it stemming from copper mining in the late 1800s and Wheal Hughes Copper Mine is part of its more recent history. So put on a hard hat, miners' boots and a cap-lamp and taste the atmosphere of mining, 1890s style. This is not a tour for the frail, good physical fitness is required and children under six are not permitted. Tours operate daily and bookings are essential.
