Driving around the island, you can't help but notice dozens and dozens of cricket grounds, in the village fields and playgrounds, on the beaches and every place inbetween. From early on, local children develop a passion for the game and have made cricket players their heroes and role models. Catch official local matches on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The cricket season lasts from January through July, when regional and international matches are held as well. The Antigua Recreation Ground (at the outskirts of St. John's) is one of the most thrilling places in the world to observe a match. The facilities are tight, but being in the throes of the intense local cricket crowd is half the fun. Ticket prices vary.
