Website | EmailDonkeys have played an important role in Arubian history. Brought to the island by the Spaniards in the 1500s, they were used primarily to transport goods and people. With the introduction of cars to the island, these beasts of burden were no longer needed and many of them were set free. The Donkey Sanctuary is run by volunteers and takes in sick and injured animals, allowing guests the opportunity to interact with and learn about them. Stop by the gift shop full of Donkey paraphernalia and purchase a souvenir t-shirt to help support the cause. To reach the sanctuary, take the road to Natural Bridge and at the intersection of Ayo Rock formation there will be white and brown signs that will lead you there. Entrance is free but donations are great appreciated!
