Website | EmailNorth Carolina's mineral fields contain the greatest variety of minerals in the nation. Burnham Standish Colburn was fascinated with these minerals and acquired quite a collection. The retired bank president formed the Southern Appalachian Mineral Society in 1927. Now housed at Pack Place these specimens can be viewed along with other exhibits throughout the year.
