Despite being nothing more than an unpaved jeep trail, this eleven-mile stretch of forest road is Aspen's version of a superhighway into the backcountry. From beginning to end, it ascends over 1,200 feet and features some steep uphill hauls, which are great fun for jeeps and mountain bikers. Grizzly Reservoir, at mile six, is a great spot for fishing and at 9.5 miles take the left fork to the ghost town of Ruby. During winter, it becomes a favorite of cross-country skiers, snowshoers and snowmobilers.
