WebsiteYou will have an excellent introduction to contemporary Greek art if you pay the National Gallery a visit. The gallery contains works of art created after the Greek War of Independence in 1821. Its collection includes 9,500 paintings, sculptures and engravings as well as miniatures and furniture. You can sample works by all the great masters of the 19th and 20th centuries such as Lytras, Gyzis, Parthenis, Tsarouchis, Moralis, Chatzykyriakos-Ghikas and Mytaras. In addition to Greek paintings, you can also see a collection of works by El Greco, Picasso, Mondrian, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Canaletto, Veneziano, Delacroix and other European artists.
