Plaka, the old town of Athens, boasts many tavernas which occupy the streets of this pedestrian zone. In stark contrast with these informal eateries is Daphne’s, occupying a beautifully restored 19th-century mansion. The restaurant serves classic Greek cuisine in a dining room that is adorned with wall paintings depicting scenes from antiquity. The Pompeii-like atmosphere of the restaurant has attracted many celebrities over the years such as Hillary Clinton, Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons. During the summer, the tables are set up in the garden of the mansion.
