WebsiteThis ancient site was the largest gathering place of Mississippian Indians between 1000 and 1550 AD. The largest mound is three acres in diameter and 63 feet tall, and is thought to have housed the chief's platform. The five other mounds are much smaller, and served primarily as burial sites. Archeological digs have excavated much of the remains, which are on display in a small museum, which also houses exhibits on the area's history.
