The free-spirited vibe is apparent from the foosball table in the waiting area, and the local beer offered to waiting walk-in clients. Rock and roll music plays in the background, unless a live band or local DJ is playing. The stylists work with what clients want, whether that is the special $15 Mohawk, a buzz cut, or an office-friendly 'do. Full coloring services are offered as well. While it is a busy barbershop, appointments are not necessary. Bird's Barbershop strikes a balance of South Austin casual and professionalism. - Christine Whalen
