Gunung Kawi, one of Bali's oldest monuments, means "carving in the mount". A steep stone stairway leads down into a beautiful valley where you find 10, seven-meter-high memorials or candies carved into the rock face. Four can be found on the west side and five on the eastside of the river. To the south across the valley lies another. Explore the ruins of a temple, said to be the tombs of the king's concubines. Indeed, a magical and unique piece of history.
