During Bali’s Japanese Occupation, from 1942 to 1945, many Balinese were used for slave labor. One task included the digging of three caves on the edge of Lake Bratan, each 25 meters deep. History relates that all the workers were shot on completion of the digging. Thus, indicating that the caves were of a secret nature--possibly to conceal weapons as well as Japanese personnel. Visitors can access the caves from the rim of Lake Bratan, about a 45-minute walk from Taman Rekreasi at Bedugul. Enjoy the refreshingly cool and beautiful mountainous area.
