Wayang Wong Dance at this Temple
Mas Village
Ubud, 80571
Phone: +62 361 23 5600
Legend surrounds this important temple. It is said that Danghyang Niratha, the itinerant Javanese priest, planted a purple tangi tree here. From the middle of this tree sprang a golden bud, ergo the name of the village, Mas, which means “gold”. The tree is still growing today and Taman Pule, meaning “beautiful garden” refers to this tree. Once every 210 days, on Kuningan Day, people come from all over to pray here. On the Friday before Kuningan and on Kuningan itself, performances of the rare wayang wong dance take place at the temple. Admission: By donation.
