A magnificent view of the island is afforded at Gun Hill, one of several military signal stations built in strategic locations to alert the Imperial forces of the coming of enemy ships and cargo vessels. The air at this location is so clear, some 700 feet above sea level, that it was also a convalescent home for Imperial troops. The station has been restored by the Barbados National Trust and is now a military museum. It is also famous for the sculpture of a lion, carved from a single limestone rock in 1868 by soldier, Henry Wilkinson. Admission is BBD10 for adults. Children pay half price.
