Horse racing has steadily gained in popularity in the Caribbean over the past few years, and Barbados is no exception. Every other Saturday from January to March and May to December, thoroughbreds race for purses large and small. Para-mutual wagering including exacta, trifecta, and superfecta bets are available (min. @US$2). Sizable crowds gather to watch the ponies run and hopefully walk home with a couple extra coins in their pocket. The season culminates with the Sandy Lane Gold Cup, which is run every March. Admission is US$5 and post time is at 1:30pm.
