James Bond is part of the tradition here. Every new Bond film is shown here, at the largest and most important cinema house in Basel. This enormous building dates from 1912. Although there had always been projection equipment here, it was only after the Second World War that the theatre became an out and out cinema. Balls were also held here. If necessary, the ground floor was turned into a dance hall in no time at all. Although the stage is still usable, they only show films here these days. Whole galleries are empty except when the biggest box offices hits are showing. Since 1992 the building has been protected as a memorial.
