It's very difficult to get fresh croissants and cakes on a Sunday in Basel. Confiserie Frey, at the railway station, goes a little way towards solving this problem. The 'Mandelbombe' (almond bombs) certanly live up to their name, concealing so many calories beneath their unassuming exterior. And the home-made ice cream ensures that many customers return time and again. You can even order coffe with whipped cream to take home. People with a little more time to spare can go downstairs to the coffee bar, watch the other customers, and maybe even flirt a little.
