WebsiteIn 1987 this restaurant underwent restoration work in an effort to return it to the splendor that had characterized it since its founding in 1955. After this refurbishment, the Matxinbenta is a restaurant with two very distinct dining rooms, each with its own separate entrance. One of them, the original, maintains its 19th century style, while the new one is more contemporary, without losing any style or elegance. In a select atmosphere, traditional Basque cooking is served. The restaurant happily distances itself from the generally modern trend of meager-sized portions. Here are a few suggestions: cod Matxinbenta style, fried hake with red peppers, home-made goose paté and sea-bass with fennel. As for wine, we recommend an 85 Añares Crianza.
