Yes, it has one of those rather incongruous-sounding names, but New Happy Gathering is a well-respected establishment and claims to be Birmingham’s first Cantonese restaurant. Its food comes highly recommended in the Good Food Guide, it's reasonably priced, and the staff are affable. There’s a buffet service enabling you to gorge yourself silly (GBP7.99 Su-Th; GBP9.99 F-Sa), and a more exclusive range of dishes on an à la carte menu. They also offer a set lunch for GBP5.99, which is a four-course meal consisting of soup, fresh salad, a main course and fried rice.
