It's easy to miss some buildings of genuine architectural interest in this part of town, subsumed as it is by modern office blocks, but the Old Royal stands out as a bastion of Victorian elegance. It has an impressively ornate façade, whilst the interior is happily lacking most adornments of the modern pub age, save a fruit machine. Basically, it's your traditional Mitchells and Butler (the local brewery) tavern, dark but not gloomy, and furnished without pretension. Beer and food are cheap, although neither is particularly exciting. Function room available.
