This beautiful colonial palace was built by the Jesuits in 1777 and housed the first public library in the New World. It was here that Manuel del Socorro Rodríguez, the Cuban patriot and pioneer of illustrated journalism in Colombia, died. Later it became the presidential palace, and Simón Bolívar lived here during the September Conspiracy. He survived, but the conspiracy marked the beginning of the end of his term as leader of the Republic. Today it houses the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is not open to the public.
