The Classic has been operating as an art house cinema for eleven years. However, it started its cinematic life over seventy years ago as a silent picture palace. The Classic is a truly independent single screen art house, one of few remaining. It proudly hosted the first gay and lesbian film festival ever presented in Queensland. Other highlights of the Classic's history include the hosting of "A Chinese New Wave Festival" and "A Festival of New Cinema from Russia". The Cinema strives to present innovative and exploratory works of an exceptional standard.
