Walking down the stairs at Scarab, the smell of incense leads the way. On first sight, the bewildered jet-lagged travellers may have to pinch themselves to ensure they are not in tribal heartland of Asia or Africa. Scarab, is a large store that lines every conceivable space with alternative, cultural and miscellaneous goods. The stock includes dresses, bags, jewellery, gems, pipes, statues and icons, most with African and South East Asian themes.
