This is the oldest ship from the Argentine Navy that still floats and quite possibly the oldest vessle in all of south america. Constructed in England in 1874, this three-mast ship was reserved as a training ship for the Argentine Armada. Along with "Los Andes" and the warship "Constitución", they formed part of the historic Comodoro Py expedition that revindicated the Argentine sovereignty in the Patagonia region that was threatened by Chile. In 1903, under comand of Captain ulián Irízar, the ship was used to rescue the members of a Swiss expedition lead by Otto Nordenskjöld whose ship had been damages by ice in Antartica. The ship has also been used for scientific research and several observation missions along the southern Argentine coast. In 1926 it was taken out of service and converted into a floating storage ship for gun powder until 1954 when it was reconstructed. In 1956 it was tied to the dock of the Naval Military School along with Fragata Escuela Presidente Sarmiento and the Museo del Mar y de la Navegación.
