WebsiteThe fourth oldest of the colleges, Gonville and Caius (pronounced "keys") was founded in 1348 by Edmund Gonville and then refounded in 1557 by John Caius. The leafy courtyards inside are a delightful contrast to the other colleges. The late 14th century chapel is beautifully decorated, a section of the original wall can still be seen. Also noteworthy are the three stone gates: Humility, Virtue, Honour. Famous alumni include Venn (of Venn diagrams), David Frost, James Chadwick (discovered the neutron), Stephen Hawking and William Harvey (who discovered circulation of the blood).
