A trip here will make you feel you have stepped back in time. From the shade of Ryrie Park, many fine examples of 19th century architecture can be seen along Wallace Street. Classified by the National Trust, the town's beginnings were modest. Settled first as an agricultural community in the 1830s, the land was largely worked by convicts. Steady population growth boomed suddenly with the discovery of gold in 1851. Today, the town offers a wide array of fine restaurants, cafes, galleries and specialty shops. A must-see for all.
