WebsiteThis historic and heritage-listed ski chalet is on the marked track leaving the car park to the Mt Franklin summit. Built in 1937-38 by the Canberra Alpine Club, it is the oldest ski chalet on the Australian mainland. The weather-board building has a corrugated iron roof and a bunk room upstairs. The stove once graced the kitchen in the Prime Minister's Lodge in Canberra. Still in original condition, the chalet is an important part of the history of downhill skiing in Australia. Maps of the area are available from ACT government shop fronts and the Namadgi and Canberra Visitors Centres.
