Initiated by a group of former Muslim residents of Simon’s Town, this museum is a reminder of a community forcibly removed by the previous South African government. The Noorul Islam Historical Society takes one back to the rich Muslim culture that existed in Simon’s Town prior to 1967 and the Group Areas Act. At the museum one can see a variety of artefacts, including a bridal chamber, wedding attire, photographs from the 1800s to the present day, hand written Khitaabs, a traditional EID table, a Hadj room and cooking utensils.
