The name Bottelary is derived from the term used for the provision rooms of ships in the time of the Dutch East India Company. Bottelary Winery has existed since 1946 and is currently owned by Stellenbosch Vineyards Ltd. With vineyards from the Devon Valley through to Durbanville and along the Bottelary Road as far as Kuils River, the cellar-master selects the grapes for his fine wines from all the best slopes and soils available. The attractive wine tasting venue offers visitors the opportunity of sampling some of the local wines.
