Website | EmailMeerendal dates back to 1702, when the farm was granted to Jan Meerland by Governor Willem Adriaan van der Stel. By 1712, Meerland's widow, Maria, had 60,000 vines growing on the farm. When the Starke family bought the estate in 1929, only a small vineyard existed. However, it displayed Meerendal's potential and consequently wheat fields were turned into vineyards in the early 1930s. Meerendal's gracious Cape Dutch homestead is a landmark in the Durbanville area. Overlooking the mountains and vineyards, the pastoral vista is truly breathtaking. The loft above the wine cellar, with its magnificent 150-year old Oregon pine beams and floors, provides an elegant setting for sampling some of the fine Meerendal wines.
