Nitida Cellars is both the newest and the smallest wine producer in the Durbanville area. The land was acquired in 1990, 1992 and 1993, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines were planted. The owners, who make wines that they enjoy drinking themselves, hope that their product will live up to the name's Latin roots - 'nitidus' meaning bright, shiny, healthy, refined and cultured. So far, they have certainly been successful - their first release, a 1995 Sauvignon Blanc, won double gold at the 1996 Veritas Awards.
