Historic Fredericksburg is situated on the northern slopes of the Simonsberg, midway between the towns of Paarl and Franschhoek. The farm was founded by the brothers Jean and Daniel Nortier around three centuries ago, and covers 90 hectares. In the 1980s, the vineyards were replanted with noble grape varieties. Fredericksburg opened to the public after its new cellar was completed in early 1998. Rupert de Rothschild Vignerons is a partnership between Anthony Rupert Junior and Benjamin de Rothschild, the son of Baron Edmond de Rothschild. The Rothschilds are the owners of Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois Chateau Clarke in Listrac, France, and partners in Chateau Lafite-Rothschild.
