Landskroon's wine making tradition dates back to the arrival of French Huguenot settlers in the late 17th century. Among the newcomers was Jacques de Villiers, a wine maker from Niort in France. In 1874 his great-grandson, Paul, bought a portion of the original Landskroon farm, which had been granted to a free burgher by Governor Simon van der Stel in 1692. Landskroon is still in the de Villiers family with the ninth generation currently carrying on the proud family tradition in wine making. Although this estate is primarily known for its port and red wines, the farm also produces an excellent range of whites. For the hungry day-visitor, the estate offers a vintner's platter served under stately oaks, from where there is a delightful view over the farm and Table Mountain. Landskroon wines can also be labeled with your own, private labels, with a minimum order of 10 cases of any one type of wine.
