Website | EmailNederburg, now over 200 years old, traces its origins to 1791, when the deputy Commissioner-General at the Cape granted a tract of land to a German immigrant named Philip Wolvaart who planted the first vines. Nederburg changed hands several times, but it was not until 1937 that a new tradition in South Africa was founded when Johann Graue became the first South African to use the cold fermentation process. A visit to Nederburg allows the visitor to share in its proud history and taste award-winning wines. The elegant centrepiece of the farm is the historic Nederburg homestead, a classic example of Cape Dutch architecture. Cellar tours, including a short audio-visual presentation and a tasting of five of Nederburg's well-known wines, can be arranged by appointment. Light lunches, served under the oak trees, are available by appointment only.
