Firth of Forth
Queensferry,
The Forth Rail Bridge began to be built in 1883 and was completed in 1890. Although a total of 57 men died during the construction of the bridge which is still used today by an estimated 180-200 trains per day. The bridge utilizes a cantilever system and many other engineering techniques never before introduced and since replicated around the world. The bridge spans 1.5 miles over the Firth of Forth and weighs over 11,500 tons - truly a marvel of design.
