Every summer for the past several years, Byres Road and its surrounds have been decked out in bunting for a spot of gratuitous celebration. Street parties, free concerts and fun days are all to be expected. Botanic Gardens is the venue for open air Shakespeare productions, art fairs and plant sales while Cottiers Theatre will host new plays, jazz and opera. The highlight is the midsummer carnival, a colourful and noisy procession that dances its way through the streets.
