EmailSan Juan is the exactly where the city of Telde was first settled. The spot was chosen in 1483 as the site of a little fort and a church, which is now a minor Basilica, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. In this district, declared a site of historic and artistic interest, are the above-mentioned church, the hospital, the Iglesia de San Pedro Mártir, a lovely square and an avenue. You can take a very pleasant walk along the colonial-style little narrow streets, such as the Duende or Calle del Conde. Other important buildings are the home of the Ponce de León family, now the Archivo Parroquial, Casa Condal and the Santa Rosalia children's playground, a real haven of peace. For more information call the Tourism Office at the above number.
