Website | EmailWhen the Arabs first invaded Spain with their Berber mercenaries in the early 8th century and settled in Granada, they built a fortress on the Albayzín hill. These walls are the remains of that original fortress, built with stones from the river Darro below. The Arab tribe who ruled Granada in the 10th and 11th centuries rebuilt the walls and added extra fortified towers, some of which can still be seen - Puertas de las Murallas (Old City Gates).
