This is where the invading Arabs and their Berber mercenaries built their first fortress, on an easily defended hilltop. You can still see some of the original Moorish gates that led inside and they're well over 600 years old. On top of the hill you come to Plaza Larga and beyond that Nuestro Salvador Church, which was built over the Albayzín's main mosque. Walk down Cuesta del Chapiz to Casa del Chapiz, the university's School for Arabic Studies. There are lots of sqares up here where you can relax and get great views of the Alhambra.
