WebsiteSmith's Point is the namesake of Scotsman Michael Smith, who served in the early 1800s as Commissioner of the island. In lieu of currency, 400 acres of land were granted to him by the British Crown. Later, his sons would sell a portion to the Grand Bahama Development Company. Located near the Port Lucaya area, the sign at its entrance proudly proclaims, "Smith's Point Bahamian Village," indicating the village's pride in maintaining its heritage. Souvenirs, trinkets and natural beauty are plentiful in the village. Smith's Point's biggest claim to fame is its Wednesday night tradition on the island the Fish Fry.
