The Diagonale, otherwise known as The Festival of the Austrian Film, was founded several years ago. It is a great honor for the city of Graz to play the main role in this event and to serve as its principal host. Every year a large number of authors, directors, artists, film critics and journalists come to Graz to watch, discuss and party at different venues (Schubert, KIZ, Rechbauer, the Festivalzentrum Thalia) and, above all, to await the distribution of prizes. Austrian films produced in the relevant year, as well as premieres, specials, documentary and avant-garde films are shown. Since the festival cinemas have a limited number of seats, early booking is recommended.
