The name of this church (literally, "Steps Church"), which dates back to the 14th century, originates from its unique architecture. It can only be accessed through a staircase at No. 21 Sporgasse. At the outset it represented a branch of the Parish of St. Paul; later, it was handed over to the Augustin Erimites and a new building was erected under the direction of Archangelo Carlone.
