This beautiful renaissance building, in the style of architect Fischer von Erlach, was constructed in 1899 by Viennese architects Ferdinand Fellner and Herrmann Helmer. The former circus building, the 'Thaliatheater,' holds about 1,500 visitors and has beautiful rococo-ornamentation in red, white and gold. Richard Wagner seems to have been one of the favorites following the opening of the Graz Opera; up until 1924, there were around 638 performances of his works presented here.
