Centro Cívico is made up of buildings from the 1950s and 60s, among which are the Corte Suprema de Justicia (Supreme Court), the Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social (Social Security Institute of Guatemala), the Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo (Guatemalan Tourist Board), the Ministerio de Finanzas Publicas (Ministry of Finance), el Banco de Guatemala and the Credito Hipotecario Nacional (National Mortgage Institution). Some buildings are adorned with works of art, as in the case of the city hall and the social security building, which have mosaics by Carlos Merida. The Banco de Guatemala has relief murals by Dagoberto Vazquez which tell the history of Guatemala. All these buildings were erected relatively close to each other so they can be easily reached by public transport.
