WebsiteIt was on the first of August, 1834, that slavery was abolished once and for all on the island of Bermuda. This emancipation freed 5,000 people and is a very important historic event. Today, residents of Bermuda remember the joy of this day at the end of July and Beginning of August by celebrating in King's Square. Stories are told, music is played, and traditional dances are danced in strong style. This event is organized by the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs Corporation of St. George.
