Website | EmailOne of the things that Finland is famous for is women's suffrage, having been the second country in the world to give women the right to vote. The debate about sexual equality continues, but perhaps one indication of how matters progress is our current president, Tarja Halonen, the first woman in Finland to reach that position. Finnish women are known to be strong, and have organized various events for themselves; one of there is the Naisten Kymppi, or Womens' 10,000, in Helsinki. The Womens' 10,000 is a short version of the Helsinki City Marathon that is run in August, but this one is run just for fun. Every year in May, thousands of women join in the event and run the ten-kilometer through the streets of Helsinki, starting and ending at Helsinki Stadium. The event enjoys a carnival atmosphere, and is more popular year after year. Entry Fee: EUR32-48.
