The beautiful St David's Park, in the heart of the Salamanca Place precinct, attracts thousands of people on the Sunday before Christmas each year. Small children, families and older folk all join in the seasonal spirit. A rug and a picnic ensure an early comfortable position. Bring your own candles, or buy them and assist charity. Carols by candlelight is a particularly Australian way to celebrate this season. In Hobart, with the long twilight hours, it is particularly lovely.
