Website | EmailThere is a strong Tasmanian tradition of Christmas sporting carnivals, wherein many towns and cities lure professional athletes with big prize purses. This is Hobart's version, and spectators will enjoy a day of track cycling (including the Hobart Wheelrace) and professional runners contesting the Hobart Gift. Prize money in excess of AUD10,000 will change hands on the day, so you can be sure of some serious athleticism. In the past, Olympic cyclists and athletes have competed at these carnivals and the intimate atmosphere is probably unrivalled elsewhere. See website for yearly details.
