Centre of Tasmania's hop growing area—one of the secret ingredients of the famous Cascade beer-this little township is pretty in all seasons, but particularly so when autumn colours of the sheltering poplars dot the landscape. Old buildings, kilns and oast houses provide plenty of photographic opportunities. As well as hops, vineyards are becoming important—one such example is Meadowbank at nearby Glenora. Surprisingly, this area is often the hottest in the state in summer (and one of the coldest in winter), so visitors should dress to suit the season.
