A thriving township just south of Hobart, Kingston is the administrative centre of the Kingborough Shire, which stretches from Taroona to beyond Verona Sands. The headquarters of the Australian Antarctic Division are located nearby. Kingston Beach is a pretty, sheltered spot offering both beach and estuary swimming. There are lovely drives in the area, particularly if the coastline is followed. The road from Blackman's Bay to Tinderbox is very pretty with views across to Bruny Island. The round trip emerges just north of Margate and the highway then leads back to Kingston. Mount Wellington looms in the background from most aspects.
